After coming back from the autoshop, I felt a little hungry and felt like eating out. I don’t know… maybe there’s something about cars and meat that just makes it clicks on my hungry light…..What would be good? What does this craving want?
Lately, I’ve been on a mission to try pastrami sandwiches from different local fast food restaurants. I began the search with Arry’s in Montebello (on the corner of Whittier Blvd. and Greenwood Ave.) This place is always filled with customers. With that being said, it is an indication of their popularity and good service and obviously good food. Their pastrami sandwiches were great! If you like a little sweetness to your pastrami, this is a great place for you to grab one. While eating this sandwich, I felt it was still missing something. I felt it needed a spicy, peppery influence to it. But all in all it was a great sandwich. I was fulfilled.
The next spot to check out is Golden Ox, again in Montebello ( on the corner of Whittier Blvd. and Spruce St.). This place is known for their “Ox Famous Pastrami” Sandwich. This sandwich differed greatly from the one from Arry’s. This sandwich was more of what I expected a pastrami sandwich to be. However, I thought this pastrami sandwich lacked flavor. I was probably expecting the same “WOW” that Arry’s provided. However, this sandwich fulfilled my hunger.. Again, I felt that it lacked that spicy peppery flavor that I’m looking for in a pastrami sandwich.
My next target is The Hat in Monterey Park ( on the corner of (Ceasar Chavez Ave/ Riggin and Atlantic Blvd.). Their sign claims, “The Hat, World Famous Pastrami”. Famous for people not considering it delicious, or famous for their delicious sandwiches? We will soon find out.
